Make Conference BINGO a spiritual FEAST!

I can’t believe I forgot to post this! I actually made this after Conference in April but wanted to post it closer to this Conference, but…. Well, let’s just say I completely forgot I hadn’t posted it yet! LOL

Anyway, this is my new invention. Actually there’s nothing new about BINGO or doing BINGO during General Conference, but this was a new way to approach it. (more…)

I had an idea that I wanted to play with – it’s still in process – but as I worked on it I ended up creating a BINGO board template. This is a super simple template – no bells or whistles. I think it turned out pretty cute for an intentionally VERY basic template to work with. There is space at the top to put a topic or name, then the squares can be filled in on a computer or doodle your cutest doodles by hand. Or you can try what I am excited to try. I had decided to give up on doing anything with my Conference Train for this April Conference. Sometimes even good things have to get set aside for better and best things! And really, that’s OK! Then the unthinkable happened – my kids wanted to watch an uplifting movie that they have been wanting to see for a while, but we haven’t had a chance to see together after the afternoon session was over today. So… Magically I found myself with OVER an HOUR of time that I could sit with my kids and enjoy time together while they did something lifting to them and I could mess with my trains!!! Magical appearances of open time just NEVER happens it seems, so I did not look the gift horse in the mouth, but instead I grabbed my computer and began playing with choochoos! I am SOOOOO excited!!!! Plus, I finally made a caboose!!! Anyway, I simply can’t wait until October to share them with you, so here they are! (more…)

Cover Image April 2016Better now than Saturday morning! I had hoped to finish this up before now, but Thursday is better than JUST barely before Conference starts at 10:00am (MST) this weekend. Right? Anyway, here is an updated version of the General Conference Flower Garden that I made before. I have added our 3 new Apostles, changed Elder Nelson’s page to reflect his new position as President of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, added in blank pages for Seventies or other men who speak, AND finally added a page for the sisters who speak! PNG fileI can’t believe General Conference is THIS WEEKEND!!!!! I am so excited. I wish I could post a video from church on Sunday of ONE. She could hardly stay in her seat in church on Sunday when it was announced that there are some tickets available to attend at the Conference Center! It was a riot! We may/may not be able to go, but I was thrilled to see that level of enthusiasm for General Conference coming from my 10-year-old!

I realized that I have not contributed anything new this year and wanted to add something. Our Bishop (Jason Lambert – thanks, BTW Bishop) spoke at the end of Sacrament Meeting this week and shared The 3 Bee’s of General Conference. Now, he might have spelled it “be” rather than “bee,” but I just couldn’t help myself going fully into flying honey maker mode on this FHE lesson prompted by his talk. (more…)

My General Confrence Flower Garden March 17, 2013

[An updated version of this for April 2016 can be found here!]

I have 3 girls and 2 boys, but have only posted my Conference Train for cute note taking geared towards little ones. I have been working on some cute ones that are geared towards older kids too, but they are not done yet – in fact they have been in the same unfinished state for two conferences already. (Hey, what’s one more?) BUT, my little princess – miss FIVE – needed a fun notes sheet for this year. She is just the right age to get her started taking “notes” by using stickers and coloring to record for herself the things she hears during General Conference. She will likely not sit still, with her stickers and her notes pages for each and every talk, beginning to end. However, she will likely want very much to be like her older siblings and use one or two stickers and a crayon or two for a moment during most talks. I want to empower her connecting to the messages this conference.

Trains are not just for boys, but this little princess needed something new. (Plus, the boys might just enjoy something new too!) As this is the spring General Conference, I decided to finally make what I have been contemplating for a couple of years now. I created a General Conference Flower Garden!Elder Cook We will have a Family Home Evening the Monday before Conference to talk to the kids about planting the words of the prophets deep in our hearts. Hopefully the visual flowers for their notes sheets will make it easier to remember that we have to do something about what we hear of our understanding will wilt and die like a flower that is not planted.

Here’s how the notes sheets work. Each speaker, of the 15 prophets, seers, and revelators, will have their own page. That way the kids have something new and fresh each talk (of the First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve). Plus, then they can build their “garden” talk by talk – hopefully adding an additional level of involvement and interaction to keep the kiddo engaged in Conference. The child takes their “notes” by writing, drawing, or sticking stickers on a new page for each talk. Each page has the name of one of those 15 leaders in dashed line, tracing style letters. There is a flower that has the picture for that same General Authority on the page. Each flower also has a tie for a stem that can be decorated to match the tie that leader is wearing. The children can fill the petals with topics that are discussed by that speaker or use the stickers made to go with the Conference Train to decorate their flower page with ideas they pick up on during that talk. After the talk is finished and the child has taken the notes they want, they can add the flower to garden for that session. Flower by flower a beautiful garden will appear!

After General Conference is over, my kids love it when I gather all their notes and put them in a notebook that they can look through during the next six months before the next General Conference begins! It makes for some great reading material on a Sunday afternoon or as a resource for a child to prepare their own talk or a lesson for Family Home Evening too! (more…)

A Little Pre-Conference Survey March 10, 2013

Conference CenterEach time General Conference rolls around, I try to come up with something new to add to my collection of ideas and things for my kids to do. My goal = keep them fully engaged in Conference in ways that hopefully help them to learn something from the speakers and the Spirit, as well as to build a tradition and habit of listening to the prophets and apostles. I sometimes even feel like it’s working! Now that I have this blog of mine, I have another goal. I want to be able to share some of the fun (or serious) things that I create for my kids to use. I can’t tell ya’all how thrilled it makes me that someone else can use my funny little printables to make Conference an experience to remember and enjoy. I hope that the things I create can also make it a bit easier on the parents to be able to listen and learn from Conference!

So, with that in mind, I decided to ask. Is there anything that YOU (whoever you might be) would enjoy for your little people or not-so-little people for Conference? I make no promises of being able to pull it off, but I am so very excited for some new ideas! I have one thing that I know I want to work up for this April’s Conference, but beyond that my creativity juices are feeling a bit stunted by midterms and papers (bleh).

Either way, bring on the General Conference preparations! I love it! 🙂
